From freelancing the Gulf War in Saudi Arabia and Israel in the '90s, to living aboard a sailboat with my husband sons for five years and sailing pregnant, my life has never been dull.
I am on dry land now and currently freelance for newspapers and magazines. Most of my features and news coverage is done for the New York Times.
I love The New York Times. Growing up in New York it was a dream of mine to just get one byline in that paper before I died. I overshot the mark considerably, but wouldn't dream of complaining.
Books I love to read:
Any book by Carl Hiaasen (must be the reporting/Florida living connection)
"Harry Potter" (every single book)
"The Return of Merlin" by Dr. Deepak Chopra. I am smitten by the combination of spiritual and Arthurian concepts and its overall positive message.
As a child my favorites were the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis and anything by Madeline L'Engle.
My Wildlife
I kayak and hike in the woods with hubby and children whenever I can.
I am a great supporter of wildlife causes, particularly the Unexpected Wildlife Refuge and was deeply saddened by the loss of it's creator Hope Buyukmihci.
All the animals and I will miss her, though we all know her spirit still keeps her woods safe from predators.
I am also a big fan of the Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge in Medford, N.J. They rehab wildlife with respect without turning them into a side-show.
